Today's Gospel passage from Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48 invites us to reflect on the importance of unity and humility in our Christian journey. Jesus tells his disciples, "Whoever is not against us is for us." This message reminds us that we are all called to work together to spread God's love, regardless of our differences.

As Fr. James McKarns often emphasizes, we must embrace humility in our interactions. We must not let pride or jealousy hinder our ability to see the goodness in those around us. Instead, let us strive to build bridges and foster unity within our communities, just as Jesus calls us to do.

Furthermore, Jesus warns us about the dangers of causing others to stumble in their faith. He uses strong language to emphasize the seriousness of leading others astray. This serves as a potent reminder for us to always be mindful of our words and actions, ensuring that they reflect the love and truth of Christ.

Let us take this opportunity to examine our hearts and ask ourselves: Are we promoting unity and humility in our relationships? Are we leading others closer to God through our words and deeds? May we seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to help us live out these virtues more fully in our lives.

Peace,

-Matt
